A new bag check area at Disney’s Animal Kingdom has been under construction for the past several months as Disney tries to improve the arrival experience at its parks. Ahead of the reopening of the park on July 11, it looks like the new security area will be open when guests return.
New aerial photos show that the new bag check area is almost completed and that it’s significantly larger than the old security checkpoint.

We can see that all of the construction walls have been removed, the narrow walkway to the old bag check area has been removed and the old bag check area itself has been demolished.
The original bag check location occupied the space at the top left of the photo. Guests would be directed either to the main lines or overflow lines located along the treeline. This new bag check area will be able to handle Animal Kingdom’s busiest days without some of the confusion that was found in the old layout.
Our lone criticism is the lack of shade in front of the checkpoint where guests will have to wait in the hot Florida sun. Some additional landscaping could have been integrated into the design without harming the objective of accommodating large crowds.
