Disney+ original episodes will be released weekly

It sounds like you may have to wait to watch all of the original content coming to Disney+. Several outlets have reported that Disney+ content will follow a more traditional weekly release schedule for episodes compared to the binge model found on competing streaming services.

Original Disney+ shows, such as the widely-anticipated Star Wars show The Mandalorian, will follow this weekly episode format that will force viewers to come back week after week.

This decision has been met with two very different reactions. Some believe this will offer a nice break from the usual rush to inhale new content before it’s spoiled while others think this could be a way for Disney to stretch more months out of its subscribers.

From a marketing perspective, the weekly format is the easy decision as it offers a larger opportunity for a new show to grow. Consider the immense hype that followed Game of Thrones from week to week and compare it to a show like Stranger Things. While both shows are enormous, Stranger Things suffers from the inability to talk about what’s going to happen from one episode to the next. There isn’t the same kind of conversations and hype created because the answers are already there waiting for you. Weekly watch parties aren’t really possible when the entire season launches at once.

What do you think of Disney+ shows following the weekly release format?
