Concept Art for an ‘Avatar’ Expansion at Disneyland Resort

Disney CEO Bob Iger shared a first look at the concept art for a possible Avatar expansion at Disneyland Resort. Iger previewed the new land during the Walt Disney Company’s 2024 Annual Meeting of Shareholders.

Before diving into the art itself, it’s worth noting Iger said this was for a “possible” Avatar experience at Disneyland Resort. This doesn’t mean the plans are confirmed or approved, and doesn’t mean guests should expect to see construction anytime soon. The Avatar concept art for Disneyland Resort is similar to the blue sky art Disney has shown for Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

As for the art, it’s fascinating. While it depicts some familiar elements from Pandora in Disney’s Animal Kingdom (floating rocks, immersive environment), the Avatar experience at Disneyland Resort looks completely new.

Is that a water attraction we see?

We had hoped Disney would use whatever the Avatar experience turns out to be in Disneyland Resort to focus on Avatar: The Way of Water. While we can’t read too far into early concept art, it appears Disney is going to focus on the latest Avatar film rather than simply cloning Pandora in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

As exciting as this new art is, and as many questions as it raises (where is this going to go?), we long for an official announcement and for these plans to be approved.
