Can You Walk Between Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park?

Updated:

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park are two amazing Walt Disney World destinations that are home to a wide variety of incredible animals. Whether you’re visiting the resort or the theme park, you may be wondering how close the two locations are to one another. How easy is it to travel between the two?

Can you walk between Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park?

You might be surprised to learn that you can’t walk between Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park. As of the date of this article, the only way to travel between the two locations is by bus or by car. It’s only a couple miles between parking lots.

A satellite view shows that Osceola Parkway is the only link between the two destinations, and it’s not practical to walk.

A walkway could theoretically be built between the resort and the theme park, but the existing landscaping and roads may make that difficult. We’d estimate that a new path would measure in at about a mile long depending on where it’d link the resort and theme park. Any kind of new walkway would be a great amenity for guests staying at the hotel.

There is the long-term possibility that the Disney Skyliner may eventually link the Animal Kingdom area with other parts of Walt Disney World. A rumor from early 2019 even suggested Disney might develop a new form of transportation for Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park. None of those plans have ever been officially confirmed, and we don’t imagine they’re a priority for Disney at this time.

For now, guests will have to rely on cars or buses to travel between the two Animal Kingdom destinations. Here’s hoping that will change in the future.
