Disney has released the first significant batch of information about the new ‘Disney The Tale of Moana’ show coming to the Disney Treasure. The broadway-style show will play in the Walt Disney Theatre when the Disney Treasure welcomes Disney Cruise Line guests in December 2024.
Via the Disney Parks Blog, we now know that a towering Te Kā puppet will take the stage before transforming into Te Feti herself.
To create puppetry that soars to mythical heights, Disney Live Entertainment creative director of puppetry and articulation, Jeff Conover, teamed up with master puppet designer Michael Curry, whose creations are featured in Disney’s Tony Award-winning musical “The Lion King” on Broadway. The massive, fiery Te Kā will be a puppet of a scale Disney Cruise Line has never before produced.
Disney also revealed the Walt Disney Theatre will become the island of Motunui at the start of the show. But, as Moana embarks on her journey, the theatre will transform from Montunui to the open ocean. Here Disney has something very impressive in store for guests.
Twinkling stars will swirl overhead and a giant, glowing manta ray will emerge and soar above the audience as a newfound sense of courage fills Moana.
A giant manta ray floating above the audience? A giant Te Kā puppet? We’ll go out on a limb and suggest Disney Cruise Line already has another hit on their hands that will rival the shows on other Disney cruise ships.
Disney Cruise Line’s entertainment is often considered the best of any cruise line. We can’t wait to see ‘Disney The Tale of Moana’ when the Disney Treasure begins sailing later this year.
