Rise of the Resistance to use new virtual boarding process, will add new plexiglass dividers to increase capacity

Updated:

Guests hoping to experience Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will have to secure their boarding pass in a new way beginning November 3, 2020. Disney has announced a modified virtual queue experience that will coincide with an increased capacity due to new plexiglass dividers on the ride vehicles.

Below is how the virtual queue process will work beginning on November 3, per Disney:

  • Guests with a valid ticket or annual pass and a Disney Park Pass reservation for Disneyโ€™s Hollywood Studios will be able to access the virtual queue system and check for an available boarding group starting at 7 a.m. on the day of their park reservation. This can be done before you leave your Disney resort hotel, or wherever else nearby you might be at that time.
  • Just as we do today, the virtual queue will reopen daily at 2 p.m. for anyone who wasnโ€™t already able to join a boarding group earlier in the day. Note: Guests must be inside Disneyโ€™s Hollywood Studios to access this second virtual queue opportunity, and access to a boarding group is subject to availability and not guaranteed.

This is a significant change as the original boarding pass process forced guests to be inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Theoretically, this could prevent some of the crowding seen when guests arrive at the park early in the hopes of securing a boarding pass. It will hopefully take some of the frustration out of the process despite the required early wake-up call.

In addition to the virtual queue change, new plexiglass dividers have been added to the ride vehicles. This will allow multiple groups to be loaded into the same ride vehicle, effectively improving capacity. Rise of the Resistance was loading just one group per vehicle due to the current health and safety regulations.
