What’s Disney building inside the Canada Pavilion at EPCOT? Construction crews have been working both inside and outside the Hotel du Canada building over the past several months, but Disney has yet to announce what they’re creating.
Our most recent look at the construction comes courtesy of DC Baker. We can see that scaffolding is still up on the outside of the building. Construction walls are in place to block prying bloggers from seeing what’s happening inside.
The space inside the Hotel du Canada has been sealed off to guests ever since La Boutique des Provinces, a boutique shop, closed in 2005. Now, Disney has been working for months to transform the space inside into something new. What that something is remains a mystery, but we have an educated guess.
We think a lounge or a bar is the most likely answer here. While it’s possible Disney could use this space for retail once again, we don’t think that’d require quite as much construction. We also think a new food and beverage spot would move the needle more financially than another Canadian retail spot. Disney is no stranger to creating new lounges at Walt Disney World, including the announced lounges themed to Spaceship Earth and Pirates of the Caribbean set to open this year.
We’ve heard some guess that this space could be another Disney Vacation Club (DVC) lounge at Walt Disney World, but that seems unlikely. There’s already a large DVC lounge at EPCOT (inside the Imagination Pavilion) and Disney likes to promote any DVC addition well in advance, as seen with the new DVC lounge at the Magic Kingdom.
So, Disney – what are you building here?
