International guests traveling to Disney World will not be able to purchase and make advanced Lightning Lane reservations from outside the United States and Canada. The My Disney Experience app, which is where guests purchase and make Lightning Lane selections, is geographically restricted to only allow purchases from within the United States and Canada.
However, once international guests are inside the country, they can book their Lightning Lane passes either seven days (for Disney resort guests) or three days in advance of the first day of their visit. Once eligible, they can book for their full length of stay up to 14 days.
This will make planning a Disney World trip more complicated for guests from abroad. While the Genie+ system had its flaws, it did have an even playing field for all guests. That’s both a positive (such as for international guests) and a negative (for Disney resort guests seeking perks).
Disney shook things up when they announced they were retiring the Disney Genie+ name and updating the line-skipping program at Walt Disney World. The advanced booking ability resembles FastPass+ of old, with the minor difference of a smaller booking window and the larger difference of carrying an extra charge. We’re curious to see how guests respond to yet another change to Disney’s line-skipping system.
