Review: The Giant Mickey Celebration Donut still offers big taste and fun in the Magic Kingdom

Updated:

Giant donuts celebrating Mickey Mouse’s birthday hit the Magic Kingdom earlier this summer in honor of the icon’s 90th birthday. The donuts were expected to be available through June 2019, but we can report that we still found them over at The Lunching Pad in Tomorrowland as of July 3.

As surprised as we were to find the donuts still being offered, we couldn’t resist taking the plunge even with some fears that these could be stale leftovers.

Our fears were proven completely wrong!

The donuts were available in three flavors: chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. We decided to go for chocolate, which appeared to be the flavor of choice based on the orders of the guests around us.

So, what was our initial reaction after plunking down about $9 for a donut? We were blown away by the actual size of the Mickey Celebration Donuts. They put the enormous donuts offered at Joffrey’s Coffee to shame, and that’s really saying something. This thing is massive.

Here’s a very scientific photo using a ketchup packet for scale:

The donut is basically one enormous donut face with two smaller donuts attached as the ears. It’s easy to call this just three donuts, but that’s not really fair seeing how big the donut face is compared to a regular donut.

Flavor also arrives in a big way in this monstrous snack. The donut is light, airy and doesn’t sit too heavy even after eating a large portion … which is important when you find yourself trying to down this thing with just two people (mission accomplished). The icing isn’t anything special, it’s traditional donut-style icing, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. If it ain’t broke!

Remember – calories don’t count in Walt Disney World.
