Review: Constance’s Wedding Cake is an unfortunate miss at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Updated:

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom is home to a wonderful parade, a new fireworks show (that may need some adjusting) and a wide arrange of exclusive snacks. One of the snacks that caught our eye at 2019’s party was Constance’s for Better or For Worse Wedding Cake.

Constance’s Wedding Cake is impossible to miss with its traditional wedding cake tiers and the chocolate axe positioned on top. Disney describes the dessert as a “citrus-scented cake with raspberry Bavarian cream, white chocolate glaze, icing pearls and flowers.”

This treat looks incredible. It’s one of our favorite designs Disney has created for a Halloween dessert in recent memory. But how does it taste?

The axe is a nice touch.

Constance’s Wedding Cake is big on style and light on taste. Despite being a quite large item (it’s easy to share between two people), it has a surprisingly small amount of actual cake. The vast majority of the wedding cake is raspberry Bavarian cream. We’ve seen other photos that showed the dessert having a larger ratio of cake, so it’s possible we just got a batch that had too much cream. Still, for a dessert that has cake prominently in its name, we’re surprised by just how little cake was inside.

The cake – what little there was – had a good flavor and consistency. We were pleased with how fresh and spongy it tasted after seeing similar desserts contain cake that’s a bit more dense or stale. For what it’s worth, we didn’t really pick up on the “citrus-scented” portion of the dessert.

The Bavarian cream was mostly subtle with its raspberry taste, which is probably a good thing considering how much of it you’ll have to eat. It was light and tasty, but it may have worked better in a smaller portion as a complement to a larger serving of cake rather than being the dominant feature. The icing wasn’t anything particularly memorable.

This dessert handled the heat fairly well, though you will inevitably find the icing to be a bit melty considering you’re out in the usually hot and humid Florida weather.

Based on the long line we waited in to buy this, Constance’s Wedding Cake is one of the more popular snacks at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. There’s no question that it looks amazing, photographs extremely well and has a unique theme. Unfortunately, we don’t think the taste quite lived up to the great looks or the $7.50 price.

You can find Constance’s Wedding Cake at the popcorn cart located in Liberty Square near the Liberty Bell.
