Video: Disney Uses Activity Trackers to Learn More About Their Rhinos

Updated:

Disney has rolled out some new technology at Disney’s Animal Kingdom park to learn more about their rhinos. Disney’s rhinos are now sporting activity trackers, similar to what many guests wear on their wrists. The trackers collect valuable data that Disney keepers can use and share to improve rhino health and education.

Watch how the new trackers will help Disney and the rhino population.

The activity trackers (which we think look like rhino-sized Fitbits) collect data such as steps, up and down movement, speed, and whether the rhino is wallowing in the mud. Disney hopes that other facilities with rhinos will join in the program, which will allow more data to be gathered and shared.

Guests visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom may see the rhinos wearing the trackers while out on Kilimanjaro Safaris.
