Updated look at a closed Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, reopening date uncertain

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon still hasn’t reopened to guests at Walt Disney World. The water park originally closed its doors for its annual refurbishment in early 2020, but hasn’t welcomed back guests at this time.

Rumors suggested Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon would reopen in Summer 2021, but as the months press on, that target seems uncertain. New aerial images show what the park looks like today and offer a clue with what’s going on in Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon.

Unsurprisingly, all of the water is drained in Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. The giant wave pool has some murky rainwater and looks like it isn’t ready to welcome guests back anytime soon.

We can see some ongoing construction projects backstage.

Another aerial view of the park shows the drained lazy river, wave pool and slides.

Disney is quickly reaching a fork in the road with Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon in 2021. While they’d probably love to have the water park open and generating revenue again, they’ve had trouble finding enough staff to reopen all of their attractions, restaurants and resorts. Each passing day makes the Summer 2021 reopening target less likely.

Walt Disney World’s water parks are typically open year round with refurbishments scheduled to ensure at least one park is open at a given time. Depending on staffing and construction, Disney may elect to wait to reopen Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon until Disney’s Blizzard Beach is ready for its annual refurbishment.

Summarized, it’s not clear when Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon will reopen at this time. But, as we’ve seen with everything else at Walt Disney World, these situations are constantly evolving and may change with little notice.
