The 2025 Destination D23 event is set to take place August 29-31 at Walt Disney World’s Coronado Springs Resort. The weekend will have a variety of presentations covering Disney movies, shows, and characters, but there’s one topic that won’t have a dedicated presentation – theme parks and experiences.
This year’s Destination D23 won’t have the usual parks presentation Disney fans anticipate each year. While the Destination D23 events are smaller than the D23 Expo events, we still expected Disney to have some kind of presentation reserved for the parks and cruise ships. Disney fans who scrambled to get tickets are understandably disappointed.
Now, this doesn’t mean Disney won’t announce any parks and cruise news over the course of the weekend. We still expect some minor details to come out about upcoming projects. Just don’t expect any major announcements or anything groundbreaking.
We’re not completely surprised that this year’s D23 event is going to be light on parks news. Disney is in the early phases of several theme park projects at Disney World (Tropical Americas, Monsters Inc, Piston Peak) and Disneyland (Avengers Campus expansion, eventual Coco ride and Avatar land). They’re continuing to introduce new cruise ships. We already know what’s coming for the next several years.
Disney could have provided additional details about these projects at D23, but they were probably worried it wouldn’t be enough for fans. We also think the continued economic uncertainty is very much a factor in Disney wanting to sit this one out.
Remember that Disney has routinely played it safe with theme park projects and expansions. They’re always trying to take minimal financial risk despite claims of “turbocharging” their investments. Economic turmoil (and fun things like tariffs) could slow down or change things in a hurry.
