Some interesting new information has been reported about Epcot Forever, the fireworks show that will bridge the gap between the ending of Illuminations: Reflections of Earth later this year and the new permanent show in 2020.
The folks over at Blooloop spoke with Disney and picked up some details regarding special kites and jet skis that will be used in the Epcot Forever interim show. Yes, we said kites and jet skis.
Below is a description detailing how performers will use personal watercraft and kites to create choreographed entertainment in the sky.
The show will include special effects-enabled kites capable of airborne choreography – a first for an Epcot nighttime entertainment show. The illuminated kites will be controlled by two-man teams aboard Jet Ski-like personal watercraft. The show will employ eight of the Jet Skis, with a driver and kite performer aboard each personal watercraft. The movement of the Jet Skis will also create the wind required to keep the kites aloft.

But what about the fireworks themselves? Don’t worry. Disney stated that the pyrotechnics will be the star of the show.
In addition to the kites and jet skis, the Epcot Forever show will reportedly use songs heard throughout Epcot’s storied history.
As intricate and crazy as the Epcot Forever show sounds, Disney reportedly wants to really blow guests away with the new permanent show that is set to debut in 2020. We have already learned that the unnamed show will use large floats, LED panels, fireworks and fountains.
An official date for the Epcot Forever show hasn’t been announced at this time.
