Walt Disney World is scaling back one of its health and safety regulations later this month. Temperature screenings will end beginning on May 8, 2021 for cast members and May 16, 2021 for guests.
Disney cites guidance from local health and government officials behind the change. Below is the new section that was added to Walt Disney World’s website.
Since reopening, we have considered guidance from public health authorities, government agencies, and our own team of health and safety experts as we assess and update health and safety measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
As this guidance continues to evolve, and with the support of local health and government officials, we are making some additional adjustments. Following the advice of the CDC and our local health officials, we will phase out onsite temperature screenings at Walt Disney World Resort for Cast Members beginning May 8 and Guests on May 16.
We will continue to follow the guidance of health and safety leaders going forward and most importantly encourage people to get vaccinated.
This will likely be the first of many rapid changes at Walt Disney World. We’ve already seen the Disney College Program resuming and more restaurants reopening on property. Meanwhile, Universal Orlando is reducing their social distancing requirements from six feet to three feet. Disney hasn’t committed to that change at this time and reiterated that masks are still required.
We anticipate more operational changes to be announced at Walt Disney World in the near future.
