Swan and Dolphin Resorts closure extended through July 29, 2020

Updated:

The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resorts have announced that they have extended their closures through July 29, 2020. The announcement was added to their Important Information page and outlines what guests with existing reservations can do as a result of the extended closure.

Guests with reservations for any future date:

For guests with existing reservations for any future arrival date, including reservations with pre-paid rates that are typically more restrictive, we will allow full changes or cancellation without a charge up to 24 hours prior to arrival, as long as the change or cancellation is made by July 29, 2020. Please note that any changes to existing reservations will be subject to availability and any rate differences.

Guests making new reservations for any future date:

For guests making new reservations for any future arrival date, including reservations with pre-paid rates, from today until July 29, 2020, we will allow the reservation to be changed or cancelled at no charge up to 24 hours before your scheduled arrival date. Please note that changes to the reservation will be subject to availability and any rate differences.

The notice above does not apply to group booking or reservations made through travel agents or third parties.

The announcement also states that the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resorts may continue to adjust their operations as they deem appropriate. That means the July 29, 2020 date is subject to change and could be extended further.

This news echos what Disney CEO Bob Chapek said in the past month about some Walt Disney World resorts not immediately reopening. The Swan and Dolphin Resorts will remain closed even after the Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom reopen on July 11, and after Epcot and Hollywood Studios reopen on July 15. It is worth noting that Marriott operates both the Swan and Dolphin Resorts as well as the upcoming Cove hotel. They may elect to follow a different reopening schedule compared to other Disney operated resorts.
