Solar panels are returning to the old Universe of Energy building

Construction continues on the new Guardians of the Galaxy coaster that is taking over the former location of the Universe of Energy at Epcot. As Disney transforms the area for the new attraction, it looks like one element from the original building is making a welcomed return.

Framing for solar panels has been recently added to the roof of the old Universe of Energy building. The solar panels were an iconic feature of the old building, but were removed as Disney started demolishing the building’s interior.

Aerial photos from the previous week show the frames and railings being installed on the roof.

The old solar panels were removed fairly early in the Guardians of the Galaxy coaster project. At the time, it was unclear if they were going to return or if they were going to fade into Epcot’s storied past.

Concept art for the Guardians of the Galaxy coaster building appeared to show the panels, but we all know how much things can change between early concept art and the final product.

It’s great to see the panels updated and replaced rather than removed for good.
