Primeval Whirl continues its extended closure, reopening date unclear

Updated:

Primeval Whirl at Disney’s Animal Kingdom closed unexpectedly in June 2019 for unplanned maintenance. It has remained closed throughout the summer and missed several planned reopening dates without explanation. Now, it appears that the closure could stretch significantly further which has guests wondering about the ride’s future.

Guests are reporting that their FastPass+ reservations for Primeval Whirl in October have been cancelled. This may indicate that the ride could be closed beyond its latest planned reopening date of September 28.

Other guests have reported similar FastPass+ changes in October.

So, what’s going on with Primeval Whirl?

The unplanned maintenance created a whirlwind of speculation. Some believe Disney might be waiting on a specific part to finish repairs on the coaster. Others believe riders have taken their last twirl on the track and Disney will move in a new direction. Whatever the truth may be, Disney is playing their cards close to the chest.

The DinoLand U.S.A. portion of Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a polarizing location. The roadside carnival theme is conveyed well, but you can make a strong argument that it doesn’t really make sense for the park. It has been reported that the roadside carnival element of DinoLand U.S.A. was meant to be a temporary land that could be overhauled with fairly short notice once Disney decided on a long-term use. As we all know, that never happened and the roadside carnival along with Primeval Whirl has persisted through the years.

Now, with an extended unplanned closure, it’s worth wondering if guests have seen the last of Primeval Whirl. There has been lots of recent speculation that a new ride could be coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, but those rumors haven’t mentioned any specific locations or themes.

Do you think Primeval Whirl will open again this Fall?
