New details on Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy coming to Hollywood Studios

Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy is a new attraction that’s coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Spring 2019. This experience is supposed to be a “high-octane” show that will take place in Sunset Showplace near Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

Disney has released new details on the show and what guests should expect.

Guests will come “face-to-face” with Lightning McQueen in an area that features a wraparound screen stretching over 200 feet long and nearly two stories high. There, Lightning will showcase his legendary career but, as you might expect, something doesn’t go according to plan. Tow Mater, Cruz Ramirez and other Cars characters will “chime in with their support” for Lightning during the show.

Summarized, this is a theater show where guests are surrounded on all sides by the action on the screen. The description makes it sound like Lightning will be physically present in the theater itself, but it remains to be seen how he will interact with what’s taking place on the enormous screen.

Scheduled for an opening in Spring of 2019, this is a new offering that’s needed for Hollywood Studios ahead of the massive crowds coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
