Magic Kingdom’s Rivers of America drained for maintenance

Updated:

The Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island have been closed for refurbishment at the Magic Kingdom. Both attractions are expected to remain closed through at least early 2021, with the latest calendar update pointing to February 2021.

As we’ve seen in the past, the Rivers of America has been drained to allow for maintenance. This reveals the track that sits below the water that guides the Liberty Square Riverboat.

Debris will be removed from the track and riverbed during the refurbishment.

We always find it fascinating that the Rivers of America isn’t as deep as it appears. Its depth, and the fact the Liberty Square Riverboat actually runs on a track, shows off the creativity of Disney Imagineering.
