Fantasmic! show area drained at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Updated:

The Fantasmic! amphitheater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios looks very different these days. Closed to guests for the past several months, the Fantasmic! show area has been completely drained of water and is currently sitting empty.

We can see a great view of the drained amphitheater thanks to a new aerial from @bioreconstruct.

The water was removed both to allow for maintenance and to avoid having a large pool of water sitting stagnant without a Fantasmic! show scheduled. There’s no need to have the water filled when it’s unclear when nighttime shows will resume at Walt Disney World.

With the water removed, we have a great look at the track the large boat runs on during the show’s finale. We can also see there aren’t additional tracks for the other boats used during the show (canoes, character platforms), disproving some old Disney myths.

Just out of frame at the top left of the photo is the dock for the Friendship Boats that run between Epcot, the Epcot Resort area and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It’s crazy how close the amphitheater really is to the main entrance of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which is only apparent when fireworks are lit during Fantasmic!.
