Fantasmic! Pocahontas Scene to be Replaced, Show Will Have Technical Enhancements When it Returns

Updated:

Fantasmic! will have a bit of an updated look when it returns to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The scene featuring Pocahontas will be replaced by a new scene with multiple characters, including Pocahontas, in heroic moments. The show will also have “technical enhancements” when it returns later in 2022.

It’s been rumored that the scene with Pocahontas would be changed and now we have confirmation. The original scene involved lots of cast members, stunts and wasn’t the most topical film for a large dedicated scene. The technical enhancements, which we assume are updates to sound/lightning, are a bit expected after such a long closure.

Personally, we loved the scene with Pocahontas – the canoes sailing by with lit torches was a highlight – and we’re a bit disappointed that it’s going away. We know it’s not the most relevant film these days, but we think Disney often relies too heavily on the same batch of films and characters. The Pocahontas scene felt unique and special to Fantasmic!, which was important as her character isn’t represented much elsewhere.

A reopening date for Fantasmic! hasn’t been announced at this time.
