An official opening date has been announced for EPCOT’s brand new fireworks spectacular. Luminous: The Symphony of Us will officially debut on December 5, 2023. As a result, EPCOT’s current show, EPCOT Forever, will end on December 4, 2023 as reported by Scott Gustin.
It’s possible the new show will have a preview night prior to the December 5 date, but that hasn’t been confirmed at this time.
To date, Disney hasn’t released many details about Luminous: The Symphony of Us. We’ve seen a large hexagonal platform installed near the center of World Showcase Lagoon. We’ve also seen several barges built backstage. But, as far as specifics regarding the show’s content, Disney has been pretty quiet.
Disney has previously said that Luminous will use lights, lasers, and fireworks to bring the show to life. We’ve been able to spot some fountains on the new barges, so it’s a safe bet those will be used too.
Via the Disney Parks Blog, they described a show that sounds like it will have a similar feel to Harmonious, the old show that ran for less than two years.
Featuring an original composition along with select songs from the Disney songbook, this new spectacular will remind us that we’re more alike than different, connecting our hearts together as one.
Thankfully, the major difference between Luminous and the old Harmonious is about the show’s barges. While Harmonious had its massive barges anchored for all to see in the middle of World Showcase Lagoon, it appears Luminous will shuttle its barges in each night. That means the daytime views around the Lagoon will be much improved, and it won’t look like Disney is actively drilling for oil.
Look for Disney to release more information about Luminous in the coming weeks to start building the hype for the show’s December debut.
