Disney World’s Splash Mountain to Close January 23, 2023 for Development of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Updated:

Splash Mountain at Walt Disney World will officially close on January 23, 2023. The attraction will close on that date for work to begin on the transformation of the classic ride into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

Guests hoping to experience Splash Mountain one more time at the Magic Kingdom will have their last chance on January 22, 2023. Disney did not announce when Splash Mountain will close in Disneyland.

In addition to this announcement, Disney also released some new concept art.

Disney provided a short description about the scene above, which will hopefully be filled with animatronics.

As you can see here, fireflies will light up the night and invite you deeper into the bayou โ€ฆ almost like theyโ€™re waving you forward. What you canโ€™t tell from this rendering โ€“ so youโ€™ll just have to trust me on this one โ€“ is that beautiful zydeco music will fill the air. Zydeco is a special blend of rhythm and blues that was born in Louisiana, and when you hear it, youโ€™ll feel like youโ€™ve truly stepped into Tianaโ€™s world.

Here youโ€™ll find Louis, who explains where this amazing music is coming from. Tiana made some new friends out here โ€“ a band full of adorable critters, including an otter, a rabbit, a racoon, a beaver, a turtle and others. The band members sing and play instruments made of natural materials they found in the bayou. It feels like they may have a bigger role to play in this story โ€ฆ but weโ€™ll just have to wait and see on that one.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is scheduled to open in 2024 at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland.
