Disney World’s park icons will be updated for the 50th anniversary

Disney has announced their first plans for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration. The icons of the four theme parks will be updated with special touches that will “shimmer and sparkle” all day and into the night.

Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration will begin October 1, 2021 and run for a total of 18 months. Guests will see crews working on the enhancements in the months ahead.

Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom will receive gold bunting and a large 50th anniversary crest.

Over at Epcot, Spaceship Earth’s lighting package will be updated to resemble stars in the nighttime sky. The updated lighting will be a permanent addition to Epcot and won’t end when the 50th celebration wraps up.

The Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will also receive some royal enhancements through nighttime projections. As we’ve seen during the holidays, the projections will temporarily alter the Tower of Terror’s appearance.

Finally, the Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will have some updates to its nighttime projections. Disney says “magical fireflies” will be seen inhabiting the Tree of Life.
