Celebrating New Year’s Eve will look very different at Walt Disney World this year. With all of the theme parks closing before midnight, Disney is planning for guests to ring in 2021 at their resorts.
Disney resorts will extend their operating hours at select quick-service restaurants, bars and stores for guests staying up late. Scavenger hunts and crafts will also be offered, though these activities will vary by location.
Guests hoping to see live fireworks are unfortunately out of luck. However, Disney will stream previously recorded fireworks shows, including Minnie’s holiday fireworks, a past Candlelight Processional and old New Year’s Eve Fireworks, on the room TVs and the My Disney Experience app.
Additional New Year’s Eve details below, as seen on the Walt Disney World website:
- Create your own in-room celebration with food, beverages and other celebratory items available for purchase
- Disney Floral & Gifts holiday baskets are available for purchase, including champagne and room décor, along with hats and noisemakers
- Select Resort merchandise locations will be open late on December 31—until after midnight—and will sell champagne in full and individual-sized bottles, along with board games and other activities to enjoy in-room
- Fireworks (previously recorded) streaming on in-room TV and the My Disney Experience app—including Minnie’s holiday fireworks, Candlelight Processional and New Year’s Eve Fireworks
- Scavenger hunts and New Year’s Eve crafts, varying by Resort locations
- Quick-service restaurants, pool bars and lounges at Disney Resort hotels will be open late—until after midnight—on December 31
The list above is subject to change. Guests should check with their individual resort for specific New Year’s Eve plans.
As disappointing as it is that Disney can’t hold its usual New Year’s Eve parties, it’s nice to see them trying to bring some fun to resort guests.
