The Walt Disney Company is finally reinstating its dividend for $DIS shareholders. Disney announced that the cash dividend is returning at $0.30 per share, and will be payable January 10, 2024 to all shareholders of record as of the close of December 11, 2023.

In the announcement, Disney noted this dividend is in respect to the second half of fiscal year 2023.

The return of the dividend fulfills Disney CEO Bob Iger’s original statement from August 2023 that said the company would return a “modest” dividend by the end of 2023. While Disney notes the upcoming dividend covers the second half of 2023, it’s unclear if they plan to return to semi-annual dividend payments.

Disney last paid a dividend of $0.88 per share in December 2019. The company had been paying dividends twice each year dating back to 2015, but those payments were halted entirely in 2020 under the CEO at the time, Bob Chapek.
