Disney has finally confirmed that Disney’s Contemporary Resort is being refurbished with theming from The Incredibles. All of the resort’s rooms will take on a new look that Disney describes as retro-modern with touches from the Pixar film series The Incredibles.
Rooms at Disney’s Contemporary Resort will match many at Walt Disney World with a modern, clean design.
Monorail theming can be spotted in the carpet and with the boxing around the windows. Meanwhile, The Incredibles are represented through pillows, art and wallpaper.
The bathrooms are also being updated.
And here’s a closer look at some of The Incredibles theming.
Disney also announced that the resort’s lobby will be updated with a “collection of modern art pieces as well as historical, behind-the-scenes photographs of Disney’s Contemporary Resort in development and under construction.”
In addition, The Wave… of American Flavors will also be “reimagined” into something else ahead of Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary on October 1, 2021.
Disney did not mention Bay Lake Tower, the DVC accommodations, during their announcements.
Disney’s decision to overhaul one of their most iconic resorts is a bit puzzling. We’re completely on board with a retro-modern theme, but dedicating everything to The Incredibles seems a bit odd. If you’re going to add characters, why not take a retro angle on a variety of characters instead of limiting it to just one series?
This follows the current mission to inject media properties into everything at Disney parks. Instead of creating unique intellectual property with new ideas, Disney wants to tie everything into a show or film. Disney’s Contemporary Resort was iconic enough to stand on its own. Now, it’ll just be The Incredibles resort.
It’s also concerning that the rooms at Disney’s Contemporary Resort resemble those at value resorts such as Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. Remember that Disney’s Contemporary Resort is a deluxe category resort and charges enormous nightly prices. The line between a value resort and deluxe resort is blurring at Walt Disney World, which makes it more difficult to justify such high prices.
