Castaway Cay expected to reopen September 12, some experiences may be unavailable

Updated:

Disney Cruise Line’s tropical paradise Castaway Cay suffered some minor damage when Hurricane Dorian passed through the Bahamas. Thankfully, the damage to Castaway Cay was limited and Disney expects the island to reopen on September 12, 2019.

In addition to announcing an expected reopening date, Disney noted that some experiences on the island may be unavailable. Below is the full statement from Disney seen on September 8, 2019.

We continue the process of cleaning up areas of the island and making repairs related to the tropical storm conditions experienced last week. We anticipate re-opening the island on Thursday, September 12, as long as all necessary work is completed. Guests going ashore will see signs of the recent storm’s passing and some experiences on the island may be unavailable.

Guests sailing on the Disney Dream when it dropped off supplies at Castaway Cay reported seeing workers repairing the beach areas guests enjoy during their visit. Reports have also stated that Serenity Bay, the adults-only beach, was hit the hardest due to its position on the island.

Castaway Cay is widely considered the shining star of Disney Cruise Line’s itineraries in the Caribbean. Though Disney notes that guests may notice damage left behind by the storm, it sounds like Castaway Cay was extremely fortunate to avoid some of the most damaging winds.
