Castaway Cay suffers minor damage, will be evaluated following Hurricane Dorian

Updated:

Disney Cruise Line’s tropical paradise Castaway Cay suffered some minor damage during Hurricane Dorian. However, it sounds like the island narrowly avoided the most damaging winds that caused some devastating damage in the Bahamas.

In a statement seen over on the Orlando Sentinel, Disney Cruise Line revealed there was some minor damage to a roof and landscaping, but they are waiting for additional surveys and evaluations.

“All is well at Castaway Cay Due to the tropical storm conditions the island experienced, we have some cleaning up to do related to landscaping and will need to make minor repairs to the roof of one small covered pavilion area. We are awaiting the arrival of survey equipment to evaluate the pier and ship channel, as is required after any storm, before we are able to reopen Castaway Cay to guests.”

It sounds like Castaway Cay was extremely lucky. Hurricane Dorian was positioned just north of Disney’s beloved destination, but the most intense sections of the storm didn’t make it to the island.

Unless the survey equipment reveals unexpected changes to the pier or the channel where the ship docks, guests should be able to visit Castaway Cay in the near future.
