The Disney Skyliner is a new method of transportation that will take guests around Walt Disney World beginning in 2019. Details on the gondola system have been widely covered, but there’s one question that continually comes up: Will the Disney Skyliner cabins have air conditioning?
No, the Disney Skyliner cabins will not be air conditioned.
Instead, each cabin will use cross ventilation to keep guests cool. The cabins were designed in a unique way that will force air in and out of the cabin as it travels along the line.
Disney has reportedly ran tests to see how well the ventilation system works in extreme Florida heat. The project moving forward indicates the results passed and were deemed acceptable without air conditioning.
You can see some of the vents near the bottom of the cabin pictured above. Vents will also open at the top of the cabin.
The speed and travel time estimates for the Disney Skyliner suggest two things:
– The cabin will be moving at approximately 11 miles per hour. That’s more than fast enough to generate a steady breeze into the cabin.
– Most trips should take between five and 15 minutes, barring any delays. Those relatively short trips should have more of a breeze than if you’re out walking around the parks.
Stay tuned. We won’t know what it truly feels like to ride the Disney Skyliner until it opens in 2019.
