Disney fans flocking to California for the 2024 D23 Expo this August may be disappointed by how many rides and attractions will be closed at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. The list of rides closed either for refurbishment or due to other projects continues to grow at both Anaheim theme parks.
The 2024 D23 Expo is scheduled for August 9-11, and here’s the full list of attractions that will be closed during that time. Note that this list is subject to change, though we wouldn’t hold out much hope for something reopening early.
Disneyland Park
Attractions closed during the D23 Expo:
- Disneyland Railroad
- Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes
- Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln
- Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
- Space Mountain
- Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (hasn’t officially opened)
Disney California Adventure
Attractions closed during the D23 Expo:
- Anna & Elsa’s Royal Welcome in the Disney Animation Building – Closing August 5, 2024
- Animation Academy in the Disney Animation Building – Closing August 5, 2024
- Turtle Talk with Crush in the Disney Animation Building – Closing August 5, 2024
- Hyperion Theatre – Nothing scheduled
Haunted Mansion was originally expected to be closed at Disneyland Park, but will in fact reopen as Haunted Mansion Holiday on July 29. The Nightmare Before Christmas version of the ride will only be available by a virtual queue as construction continues around the outside of the attraction.
Space Mountain’s refurbishment schedule is particularly peculiar. Announced June 27, Space Mountain will be closed beginning August 5 and remaining shuttered for about a month. The work will focus on lighting and flooring, which don’t sound like projects with a ton of time sensitivity. So, why not push the closure back until after the D23 Expo?
It’s a pretty healthy list of popular attractions that will be closed during what will be a very busy time at Disneyland Resort. Disney is acting as if it’s a normal end-of-summer schedule with planned refurbishments. It’ll be difficult to say Disneyland Park is putting its best foot forward during Disney’s biggest fan event.
