The Avengers Assemble! stunt show has been cancelled at Disney California Adventure. The stunt show, which saw Black Widow, Captain America, and Black Panther battle Taskmaster along the rooftop of Avengers Campus, will have its final performance on April 5.
According to The Orange County Register, the show’s final performance comes as construction is about to begin on the expansion of Avengers Campus. But, it’s unclear if the show’s closure is related to construction or the victim of budget cuts. The article notes that the stunt performers are the highest paid performers at Disney California Adventure.
Previously, Disney ended the Doctor Strange: Mysteries of the Mystic Arts show in June 2024. They also removed the stunt performers from The Amazing Spider-Man show in November 2024. While other Marvel characters still meet around Avengers Campus, the reduction in live shows has been noticeable.
We’ve previously praised Avengers Campus because the characters and shows made everything come to life. We believed Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge should have adopted many of the ideas that made Avengers Campus unique. But, without those performances, the biggest flaws in Avengers Campus rise to the surface. The area feels more like a college campus or an office park than it does a destination for Marvel superfans.
Avengers Campus needs live performances and characters. We hope Disney realizes that and eventually restores some of the land’s entertainment.
