Big changes are in store for The Muppets at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney has finally announced that the Monsters Inc. land will in fact replace Muppets Courtyard and the Muppet*Vision 3D attraction. Thankfully, the Muppets aren’t disappearing from the park as they’ll be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster from Aerosmith.
Here’s news on the switch:
NEW: Monsters, Inc. land will replace Muppets Courtyard and Muppet*Vision 3D at Disney's Hollywood Studios. To make way for monsters, the Muppets will take over Rock 'n Roller Coaster and "team up with music's biggest starts for a rockin' music festival."

The new Monsters Inc. land will utilize the current Muppet*Vision 3D theatre for a new theater show. No additional details were provided on that change.
Disney said that there’s still time to enjoy both Muppet*Vision 3D and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, and didn’t provide a timeline on the closures. They also said that they’re working on a way to preserve the Muppet*Vision 3D film for fans to enjoy in the future, but they didn’t elaborate on what that meant.
Disney says there is still time to enjoy Rock 'n Roller Coaster and Muppet*Vision 3D. Also about Muppet*Vision 3D, Disney says: "…we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future."

There’s a lot to digest and unpack here. Overall, it’s great to see The Muppets sticking around at Hollywood Studios and Walt Disney World as a whole. And, it’s nice to see the very dated Aerosmith theming on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster updated with the Electric Mayhem. Disney mentions The Muppets will team up with music biggest stars, so we just hope that doesn’t make the ride feel dated too quickly.
While we’re sad to see Muppet*Vision 3D go, we’re glad Disney is keeping the space for something new and not just bulldozing it. Hollywood Studios desperately needs capacity, and now it appears that the Monsters Inc. land and its new door coaster will increase the park’s roster of attractions.
This isn’t the end of the changes at Hollywood Studios. The Animation Courtyard, and specifically the Star Wars Launch Bay area, are likely next in line for updates. We’ve heard that news surrounding the next phase of work at Hollywood Studios could be announced in the next year or two, but we think Disney could hold that until work is further along on the Muppets Courtyard project.
