First Piece of Track Placed for Monsters Inc. Door Coaster at Hollywood Studios

Updated:

The new Monsters Inc. Door Coaster has reached another significant construction milestone at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Our fearless eye-in-the-sky photographer, @bioreconstruct, noticed that the first piece of track for the coaster was recently moved into position.

Let’s take a look all the angles @bioreconstruct captured during the flight.

This first section of track went up roughly two months after the Monsters Inc. coaster ride building went vertical. That’s some speedy construction. It’s extremely quick progress by Disney’s standards. Here are some additional views of the ride building.

Just for fun, we went back and checked to see how long it took Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind to open after its first piece of track went up. The answer is roughly three and a half years. Obviously, these are two very different coasters, but it shows how long a coaster project may take even after the track starts being installed.

All of that is to say there’s still a long way to go before the Monsters Inc. coaster is ready to welcome guests. Disney hasn’t announced an opening date for the coaster or any portion of Monstropolis at this time. While we’re encouraged by the speed of construction, we still think a 2028 opening date would be the absolute earliest possibility.
