Rumor: Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster to be rethemed at Hollywood Studios

Update: We reached out to Disney and they have confirmed that there are no current plans to change Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster from its theme at this time.

It’s possible the New York Times either confused the Hollywood Studios coaster with the one in Paris, or that any potential projects aren’t ready to be publicly announced at this time. Other insiders have reported that discussions have been held about the ride, but nothing has been finalized. This seems like a rumor / project that will eventually happen at some point in the future though there may not be any current plans to make a change.

Original Story: The New York Times recently reported on all of the upcoming changes coming to Disney theme parks around the globe. They thoroughly discussed Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the new Star Wars Resort and all of the construction taking place at Epcot. They also briefly mentioned one very interesting detail – a rethemed coaster at Hollywood Studios.

As seen in the map of the current projects at Hollywood Studios, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith is labeled as a “re-themed roller coaster” project. The coaster isn’t mentioned by name, but it is the location highlighted on the map.

Unfortunately, there aren’t any other details provided in the article. It’s possible the New York Times confused the coaster at Hollywood Studios with the one in Paris that is becoming a Marvel-based attraction. Other Disney insiders have said that this is a project that has been discussed, though nothing has been confirmed at this time.

It has been speculated for quite some time that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster would be moved away from its current Aerosmith theming. Aerosmith isn’t exactly the most relevant intellectual property in 2018 and a theming change shouldn’t be too difficult to pull off.

Previous rumors have suggested a property such as Monsters Inc. could be placed into Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster to update what may be viewed as a dated attraction. Those rumors faded over the years, but now they – and rumors suggesting other themes – should resurface.

Disney will need to do everything in its power to make sure Hollywood Studios is ready for the enormous crowds that will descend upon Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. An updated or altered coaster, to go along with the other mentioned and rumored projects, could help spread some of the crowds out.
