A new nighttime show is reportedly in the works at Epcot. The current show, IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth, has been showing at Epcot ever since its official opening on October 1st, 1999. The new show will supposedly include fireworks, fountains and drones.
According to the always-knowledgeable Marni1971 over at WDWMagic, “hardware is currently being fabricated for the new show.”
Unfortunately, no details beyond that are revealed, but it does indicate that work is moving forward on the new nighttime show.
Beyond that, it’s also reported that Steve Davison is working on the new show. Davison is the Lead Creative Executive of Parades and Spectaculars at the Walt Disney Company, and has some impressive accomplishments on his resume including Wishes at the Magic Kingdom, the Festival of Fantasy parade at the Magic Kingdom and many more at other Disney resorts.
Specifics about the new show are limited, but it has been reported that drone will play a role following their successful tests at Disney Springs. Intellectual property (IP), a notable element that the current Illuminations lacks, will likely be in the new show based on Disney’s current trend of incorporating IPs.
After nearly 20 years, it’s probably time for an updated or new nighttime show at Epcot. Hopefully whatever comes next is able to carry the torch of the moving and memorable IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth.
