Is Disney getting ready to finally build the long-rumored new Magic Kingdom resort? Permits filed near the Magic Kingdom suggest Disney may have some big long-term plans for the area.
The new permits aim to reroute Floridian Way and shift the existing road further west. Floridian Way would be pushed to the west to give more room around to the north and west of the Grand Floridian Resort.

Shifting Floridian Way west opens up lots of space for future development. While it’s unclear what Disney has in mind with this project, the first thought immediately jumps to a new Magic Kingdom resort.
The area in question is in the red circle.
Disney recently tested the land in this area to see if it was suitable for construction. Markers could be seen by guests using the relatively new walkway that connects the Grand Floridian Resort to the Magic Kingdom. A new resort would be able to connect to this walkway and provide quick access to the Magic Kingdom.
Plans for a resort in this area date back more than 50 years before Walt Disney World even opened. Preview images released before Walt Disney World welcomed guests depicted a Venetian themed resort in this location.
The Venetian Resort project was eventually scrapped and is a fun note in Walt Disney World history.
Rumors about a new Magic Kingdom resort tend to pop up every couple of years. This time things feel a bit different now that space is being opened up for future development.
