Disney denies rumor suggesting a Tesla sponsorship of the Tomorrowland Speedway

You may have heard a rumor recently suggesting that Tesla was going to become the new sponsor of the Tomorrowland Speedway in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. The alleged agreement would signal a significant refurbishment of the attraction and would replace the current gas-powered vehicles with electric cars.

However, despite other rumors suggesting additional work is coming to the Tomorrowland Speedway, this specific story doesn’t appear to be factual at this time.

An agreement with Tesla is unlikely for a number of reasons, but the most obvious might be the fact it would directly fly in the face of Walt Disney World’s long-standing partnership with General Motors, as seen over at Test Track.

The idea of Disney overhauling the Tomorrowland Speedway isn’t far-fetched and will likely take place during the gradual redesign of Tomorrowland. The current gas cars don’t really fit into the modern idea of Tomorrowland and would stick out in a big way next to the bright and shiny TRON coaster that will open in 2021. That being said, don’t expect Tesla to be connected to the ride at this time.
