Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Character Statues Are Sticking Around

Updated:

Disney has announced that the character statues that were installed for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary are sticking around. The 50 statues that were installed across the four Walt Disney World theme parks will remain in place even though the anniversary celebration has passed.

The 50th anniversary medallions will be removed from the sculptures over the next few months. The statues will be touched up with “pixie dust” and guests will be able to continue interacting with them using their MagicBand+ bands.

It’s nice to see Disney confirm the character statues are sticking around. The statues are placed in mostly unobtrusive locations around the four theme parks, and finding them all can be a fun scavenger hunt. The additional MagicBand+ interactivity is also a nice touch, though we may enjoy watching guests frantically waving their arms at the statues more than the effects themselves.

The 50 character statues were one of our favorite additions (along with Spaceship Earth’s updated nighttime lights) from what was a pretty lackluster anniversary celebration. Click here to view the Best and Worst from the 50th anniversary.
