Walkway to be widened near Cinderella Castle

Updated:

The narrow walkway that connects Liberty Square to Fantasyland beside Cinderella Castle will be widened in an effort to improve guest congestion. The walkway in question sits near the Hall of Presidents in Liberty Square and connects up to the Cinderella Fountain in Fantasyland.

WDWMagic reports that a portion of the moat in front of Cinderella Castle may be drained while work progresses on the walkway. No additional details have been released regarding how long the walkway will be closed, how wide the walkway will become or if any theming will be changed.

Currently, the walkway may be the most narrow guest path in any Walt Disney World theme park. It can be easily blocked by just two guests walking shoulder-to-shoulder, and can be completely impassable with a couple of large strollers. The expansion comes as Walt Disney World tries to improve guest flow ahead of the large crowds they expect for the future opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
