Video: Disney previews lightsaber training in the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

Disney has previewed one of the activities guests will experience in the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro participated in lightsaber training, which asks guests to wield a lightsaber and deflect lasers.

Check out the experience below.

Unfortunately, guests won’t get to use the special “real” lightsaber that Disney previously unveiled. Instead, they’ll use a more traditional lightsaber similar to the ones guests can build at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

This video was met with mixed reactions. While it’s exciting to finally see what’s inside Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, this video left some underwhelmed. The lightsaber training looks very similar to activities seen ages ago in DisneyQuest. That’s a troubling comparison given Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser’s price.

Disney could have chosen to make the lightsaber training a VR experience, which may have made more sense as it’d look similar to Luke’s lightsaber training with the blast shield.

Disney is billing Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser as their marquee combination of guest interaction and storytelling. We haven’t seen much of what’s inside, but we’re hoping the rest looks a bit better than the lightsaber training.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will officially open to guests March 1, 2022.
