Video: Disney demonstrates an animatronic with lifelike gaze and glances

Updated:

Disney Research has released a video demonstrating their next step forward in animatronic technology. The short but impressive video showcases an animatronic bust with a lifelike gaze that makes subtle and convincing reactions.

The one-minute demonstration may offer a preview of what’s to come at Disney theme parks.

While the animatronic may look a bit creepy, imagine how realistic Disney can make characters move and react in the future. These developments may reduce the uncanny valley and make it feel like you’re actually interacting with a real person or character.

Disney has already patented a variety of interactive ideas that can analyze and react to a guest’s emotions. Combining those ideas with the advancements with animatronics could yield some extremely realistic experiences.
