The World of Disney store at Disney Springs has a new modern look that has completely transformed the old appearance of the store. With its grand opening scheduled to take place in Fall 2018, the majority of the store is still open while construction continues.
Here’s a look at the store’s new main area, which is hardly recognizable if you’ve ever visited the store before its remodel.
Instead of using separate rooms with different themed merchandise, the store now has a very open concept. You can see all the way to the back wall from the main entrance, which wasn’t really possible with the old layout. The store is still divided into sections (home goods, food, etc), but there aren’t any literal dividers blocking your path.
While the open feeling is a welcome change (the old layout could feel a bit claustrophobic with large crowds), it’s worth noting that Disney has apparently made a big move away from theming. The old decor of the World of Disney store had some really fun theming featuring characters and scenes from iconic Disney films. You could spend a decent amount of time just walking around the old store looking at the little nods to some fun Disney lore. Now, that’s not really possible. The look is modern, sleek and clean, placing a larger emphasis on the merchandise … which is probably the actual point.
The new World of Disney store has a very modern look and feel, but it’ll be interesting to see how it holds up over time. Though it’s fun to watch Disney evolve, one has to wonder how the move away from theming will be received as the years go by. The people who come to Disney and want to feel immersed in all things Disney may be disappointed, while those who want a more modern shopping experience should be pleased.
