The two attractions will open in phases at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will officially open on August 29, 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. However, only one of the land’s attractions is expected to be open when the land welcomes its first guests.

The Millenium Falcon attraction, Smugglers Run, will be up and running when guests first visit Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World in August. The Rise of the Resistance attraction is expected to open “later in 2019” on an unannounced date.

You can note the delayed opening of Rise of the Resistance at the bottom of the promotional video announcing the land’s opening date at Walt Disney World.

Disney has elected to open the land in phases in an attempt to control the enormous crowds that will arrive at opening. The land opening in two phases may assist in spreading the massive crowds out across several months rather than having them arrive all at once. Some may even label this two-phased opening process to be comparable to a publicly-announced soft opening for the land.

“In light of tremendous demand, Disney made the decision to open the land in phases to allow guests to sooner enjoy the one-of-a-kind experiences that make Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge so spectacular.”

It also seems very likely that the Rise of the Resistance attraction will be the final project completed inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. It may not make sense to keep the completed land closed for weeks or even months while work continues on what promises to be Disney’s most ambitious attraction. Instead, guests can visit the rest of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge while the finishing touches are completed behind the scenes.
