The Tomorrowland Speedway track is being broken up for TRON coaster construction

Updated:

Big things are happening over in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom. New photos show that a segment of the Tomorrowland Speedway track has been broken apart to make way for work on the new TRON coaster.

The Tomorrowland Speedway closed on January 2, 2019 and is expected to be closed until May 2019. As you can see in the photos above from WDWMagic forum user Rteetz, a chunk of the track has already been demolished.

It appears the section of track highlighted in red is being removed. We’d expect the rounded curve to the right of the red box will be fully removed as well.

Once completed, we’d imagine the Tomorrowland Speedway track will be a bit shorter and more condensed with its new layout.

Speaking of TRON construction, below is a look at the rest of the area. There’s nothing major to see beyond additional land clearing.

The concept art below offers a rough idea of what guests should expect to see once the TRON coaster is completed by 2021. Note that the Tomorrowland Speedway track has a very different layout compared to its current track, but that may just be artist interpretation.
