The famous Jungle Cruise attraction at the Magic Kingdom is expected to be updated in 2021. Disney has announced that the Jungle Cruise will be updated with “new adventures” that includes “more humor, wildlife and skipper heart.”
Disney’s announcement included a brief video on the upcoming changes.
In the announcement, Disney said they aim to “reflect and value the diversity of the world around us.” They’ve previously received some negative criticism over the depiction of natives (savages) in the attraction. The inclusion of skippers themselves being added into the ride appears to be one way Disney is addressing this feedback.
We’re always a bit precarious when Disney updates a classic attraction. But, we like the idea of replacing some negative stereotypes with the real stars of the ride – the skippers! The cast members make this ride a memorable one and it’s great to learn they’ll be featured in the ride.
Back in 2018, there was a rumor that the Jungle Cruise attraction would be updated if the Jungle Cruise movie starring Dwayne Johnson was successful. This update doesn’t appear to be connected to the film, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see some sort of easter egg or nod to the film make it into the attraction.
Disney expects the Jungle Cruise to be updated this year.
