Another major change recently took place at the old Universe of Energy building at Epcot. The iconic solar panels that could be seen in rows on the roof of the building have been removed as the transformation into the new Guardians of the Galaxy coaster progresses.
The photos from @bioreconstruct on Twitter show that almost all of the old panels have been removed.

Also, this is an awesome photo even though it shows the sad state of the old Universe of Energy Building.

Now, before panicking too much, it’s worth noting that the original concept art shown for the new Guardians of the Galaxy coaster depicted what looked like solar panels on the roof. Concept art isn’t very reliable and is always subject to change, but it’s possible the solar panels will make a return appearance. See below.
The old panels might have been removed to make way for new panels that have the latest technology.
It has been reported that the solar panels were present in some concepts for the building and not present in others, so it will be interesting to see which design won out.
