Rafiki’s Planet Watch at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will reportedly reopen in Summer 2019. While an official date hasn’t been announced, the area will reopen after closing in October 2018 due to cost-cutting measures.
All of the original elements of the area, such as the Wildlife Express train and the Affection Section, are expected to reopen. An extensive refurbishment will reportedly take place prior to the area reopening.
Disney mentioned that a few enhancements will be added that will celebrate The Lion King. Currently, there’s no additional information on what that might entail.
When Rafiki’s Planet Watch closed near the end of 2018, rumors swirled suggesting the area would be ideal for a new land or expansion at Animal Kingdom. Despite the location now reopening, those rumors will likely persist due to the overall size of the area and the possibilities that a new build could present.
