Will a new hotel grace the entrance of Epcot in the near future? Judging by some new permits filed around the Disney World theme park, the idea seems like a strong possibility.
The permit, seen above courtesy of Blog Mickey, shows lots of work taking place all around Epcot. The item of note here is the area shaded in yellow that appears to be the location of the rumored hotel coming to Epcot.
Below is another look, again courtesy of our friends at Blog Mickey, that shows the area in better detail. The location where the hotel may go (according to various rumors) is the “A” location.
Based on the footprint, the new hotel would sit just outside the front gates of Epcot and would disrupt the current bus location as well as two parking areas. Though the permit covers these areas, it’s unclear just how large a new hotel building would be.
Keep in mind that Disney hasn’t confirmed or denied any of these rumors as of the posting of this article. However, some insiders (such as the awesome Marni1971 over at WDWMagic.com) have suggested that a hotel could be coming to this location and would theoretically alter the entire entrance area of Epcot as we know it.
It’s difficult to form an opinion on this report without seeing any concept art. Epcot’s entrance needs a lot of work (they could start by removing the legacy walls) and an overhaul of the area would be a welcome change. However, it’s easy to envision a large project dominating the sight lines, ruining the feel and presence of Spaceship Earth.
Stay tuned. More should come out about this project in the near future.
